THE 11th ANNUAL HURRICANE BLOWOFF HOME BREW COMPETITION RULES, REGULATIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION

We invite all brewers, judges, and stewards and anyone else interested to participate in the 11th Annual Hurricane Blowoff, always an AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition, which takes place March 31st – April 2nd.  If you would like to judge or steward, please fill out the attached judge registration form and submit it with your entry form.  Even if you have never participated in a homebrew competition, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the 28 categories of beer, mead and cider, so we encourage you to join us!!

The competition will kick-off with judging, starting at 5:00 pm on Friday the 31st at the Howell Hacienda Encanto in scenic Loxahatchee.  While the Howell Hacienda Encanto is located in a very rural setting, it is very convenient to both I-95 and the Turnpike, approximately 11 miles west of downtown West Palm Beach (directions below).  Following the judging at 9pm, there’ll be a trip to the Bamboo Room ($12), in beautiful downtown Lake Worth, to check out the “Ramblin’ Blues” of Roy Book Binder.  Then it will be back to the Encanto to continue the party with a monster-sized bonfire and ales brewed by the Palm Beach Draughtsmen’s exclusively for the Hurricane Blowoff.  Camping at the Encanto is encouraged!

On Saturday, April 1st, judging continues at 8:00 am at the Encanto.  Howell Hacienda.  The judging will be completed by 1 pm, and then it will be time to enjoy our second annual mini pub-crawl.  On this years itinerary, we’ll sample the brews at Brewzzi in downtown West Palm and then it will be off to visit the 110 taps at our new beer mecca, the Yardhouse in Palm Beach Gardens.  Van capacity is 15, so get your tickets ($15) early!  Following the pub crawl, it will be back to the Encanto for the Hurricane Party, which will consist of a barbeque dinner ($20), another monster bonfire and more of the Blowoff brews.  We’ll also have the usual array of excellent raffle items!  The award ceremony will be held on Sunday morning, April 2nd, at the Encanto, starting at 10am sharp.  The award ceremony will be combined with the Hurricane hangover brew-fast ($15).  Or, you can purchase an all-event pass in advance for $55.  Tickets can either be purchased on-line at this site, or, at the Home Brewers’ Outlet in West Palm.

Eligibility: The Hurricane Blowoff Competition is open to all home brewers.  No commercial entries or entries brewed at a commercial establishment will be accepted.

How to Enter: Each entry will consist of three (3), 10 to 14 ounce (beer) or 7 ounce (meads and ciders) bottles, to be of brown or green colored glass only.  All bottles must be free of ink name-brand lettering, and paper labels. Raised "NO DEPOSIT", or manufacturing codes are acceptable, as are Sam Addams-style bottles which contain minimal raised glass. Bottle caps must be blacked out to eliminate any identifying markings or graphics. Grolsch-type or swing top bottles are not eligible. Bottles not meeting these requirements will be disqualified. You may submit as many entries as you like, but no more than two for each sub-category will be allowed.  If you have any questions about bottle elegibility, please send an email to: webmaster@palmbeachdraughtsmen.com.

Entries will be accepted starting on March 3rd and must be received by March 18th.  The entry fees are as follows: single entries are $6 each, and $5 each for bulk entries totaling 5 or more.  Entries received after March 18th may be accepted at the competition organizer's discretion, at $12 per entry.  Please make checks payable to Palm Beach Draughtsman, Inc. (do not send cash). A completed entry form must accompany every entry.  Entry, bottle and judge forms may be completed online or hard copies may be printed at www.palmbeachdraughtsmen.com.  Entry fees can be paid via PayPal through the Palm Beach Draughtsman website, or can be submitted with a hard copy of the entry form.  Attach a completed bottle ID form to each bottle with a rubber band only. Glued or taped ID forms will not be accepted.
